More tags, but this time Vim didn't do a thing on the thick, silvery paint. Neither did an alcohol swab. Any suggestions? Maybe something grittier? Sand?

I spent a solid hour and a half just pulling out thistle after thistle, with some motherwort for variety. Thistle on the right, motherwort on the left:

A lot of the thistles are about my height, or maybe a little taller:

See how they're beginning to flower? I got here just in time. I carted them off by the sheetload. ;)
After:

Better, but I'm not done yet.

(It was hard to capture that in pictures. Trust me, there's a lot of thistle added to that compost pile.)

Daylilies with motherwort and grapevine:

The lilies aren't supposed to be there either, but I have bigger fish to fry at the moment.

Looks like it was a lot of hard work. I have worked in both my parents garden and my Sisters garden on several occasions and I know its hard work. Job well done.
I would leave those Lillis where they are, they look lovely.

You might try one of the citrus solvents.

They probably have a small bottle at that big natural food store you took me to. If the thing you're wiping is glass, you're fine, if it's plastic, it may dissolve the plastic, so no good.

Another idea is acetone. Nail polish remover.

I wouldn't use anything abrasive, or it will scar the plastic or glass so bad you wont be able to read through it.

End of lecture. :)

Hi Amethyst, thanks for stopping by. I guess I'll let the lilies be for now.

Liane, the signs are, I think, some kind of plastic-coated/laminated board, so maybe the citrus solvent isn't the way to go. (I just read one brand that promised to be "risible with water." It can take a joke?) I'll try some nail-polish remover next time.

Lise and I went by Beechwood today and pulled some Tansy for old time's sake because we missed the smell :)

I love your blog, and have no further advice on the mark problem, other than to do what Liane says to do....

You're very informative and funny at the same time, a killer combo. Thanks.
